Author Guidelines

Editorial policy

The journal uses the online platform Online Journal System (OJS) for the publication processes which include submission, review, proofreading and copyediting. The publication processes take approximately 24-28 weeks once the article is submitted by authors through the online system. Prior to the reviewing process, the article must be screened for < 30% similarity index.

Manuscript submission

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR JOURNAL MANUSCRIPT

(Manuscripts that do not adhere to the guidelines will be rejected)

***Required

  • The title, theme and content of manuscripts should provide a forum for inquiries on media and mass communication.
  • Manuscripts should not be less than 5000 words and not more than 7000 words (excluding references, author/s biodata and appendix), Manuscripts that do not adhere to this will not be considered for review. Each manuscript must have an abstract (between 200-250 words) and 5 key words. Manuscripts in Malay must have an abstract and title in English with similar abstract content***
  • All manuscripts must be typed in Microsoft Word and single spaced, Times New Roman, font 11. Margins are to be set at Normal (2.54cm all round) and paper size at A4 (21 x 29.7cm).
  • Authors are required to send the manuscript in word.docx.
  • To facilitate the blind review process, please ensure that the authors’ names do not appear anywhere in the manuscript or in the filename. Authors’ names, designations and institutional addresses should be in a separate file.
  • Authors are to check manuscripts for accuracy of language before submitting to the journal. The Editorial Board will not edit submitted manuscripts for style or language (Please refer to template given below)***
  • Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Sains Sosial, Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, either in electronic or printed form. The corresponding author should declare this when submitting the paper to the Chief Editor.
  • Upon submission of a paper, the author/authors are to provide the editorial board with names of three reviewers from different institutions, complete with their addresses, designations and email addresses. Attach this as a supplementary file***
  • We do not encourage multiple submissions. An author may publish ONLY in alternate issues of Jurnal Sains Sosial, Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences. The rule remains in case of co-authorship.
  • Jurnal Sains Sosial, Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences retains the right to electronically distribute accepted manuscripts but the authors will retain copyright. If authors wish to republish the article, they must write to the Chief Editor and acknowledge Jurnal Sains Sosial, Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences as the original publisher.
  • Authors are expected to carefully proofread their work before submission***
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to make editorial changes to any manuscript accepted for publication to enhance clarity and style. Endnote and footnote are not encouraged.
  • Manuscripts that do not adhere to any of the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES will not be considered for review.
  • Please attach a brief biodata of all authors (about 50 words)***

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

The content of Jurnal Sains Sosial is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY NC ND 4.0). Authors transfer the ownership of their articles' copyright and publication right to Jurnal Sains Sosial. Permission is granted to Penerbit Universiti Melaka to publish the submitted articles. The authors also permit any third party to freely share the article as long as the original authors and citation information are properly cited.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
